Job Description

Position Overview

Harbor Health is looking for a skilled and mission-driven Content Writer to support our growing marketing and communications function. In this role, you will craft clear, compelling content that helps members understand their care options, educates providers and community partners on Harbor's payvider model, and builds brand awareness across digital and print channels. You will work closely with clinical, operations, and insurance plan teams to translate complex healthcare concepts — including value-based care, benefit structures, and member engagement programs — into accessible, engaging communications. This is an opportunity to shape how Harbor Health tells its story at a pivotal moment in the organization's growth.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and proofread content across channels including website copy, blog posts, member newsletters, social media, email campaigns, and marketing collateral
  • Develop member-facing communications that explain benefits, care programs, and health plan features in plain, accessible language
  • Create provider- and broker-facing content that articulates Harbor Health's value proposition as a payvider and ACO partner
  • Collaborate with clinical and operations teams to accurately represent Harbor's care model, HEDIS initiatives, and population health programs
  • Translate regulatory and compliance-driven content (e.g., CMS/TDI requirements) into member-friendly formats — EOBs, plan documents, FAQs
  • Maintain and evolve Harbor's brand voice and editorial standards across all content types
  • Support SEO strategy by producing optimized content that drives organic traffic and member engagement
  • Manage multiple content projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Partner with the Creative Director and design team to ensure content and visual elements are cohesive and on-brand
  • Track content performance metrics and incorporate insights to continuously improve effectiveness
  • Assist in building a content library and knowledge base for internal and external use

Desired Professional Skills & Experience

Required

  • 5+ years of professional writing experience, with a portfolio demonstrating range (digital, long-form, and/or marketing copy)
  • Experience writing in a healthcare, health insurance, or health-tech context
  • Strong command of plain-language writing principles for consumer-facing audiences
  • Ability to distill complex, technical, or regulatory information into clear and engaging content
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills; strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and adapting quickly in a startup environment
  • Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing tools

Preferred

  • Familiarity with value-based care, ACO structures, Medicaid/Medicare, or managed care concepts
  • Experience writing for both B2C (member) and B2B (provider, broker) audiences within the same organization
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and content performance measurement
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, HubSpot, or similar)
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field (preferred, not required)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish — a meaningful advantage given Harbor's Texas member population
  • Background in startup or early-stage healthcare organizations

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape how Harbor Health communicates its story — across member education, plan marketing, and community engagement — at an inflection point in the organization's growth
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • An organization made of people who are passionate about changing the healthcare landscape
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • A transparent and unique culture
