As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you’ll work on real projects, be part of our collaborative culture, and get the support you need to grow - across two full semesters. Academic Year Internship Program Details

Program Dates: September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027

Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

Academic Year Recruitment Timeline

Universal Television Entertainment is responsible for world-class television entertainment. The division programs and markets content across leading entertainment brands Bravo, NBC and Peacock, and produces over 3,000 hours of television annually through Universal Studio Group, the studio business comprised of Universal Television, UCP, Universal International Studios and Universal Television Alternative Studio.

Universal Film consists of the operations to produce, acquire, market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical, home entertainment, television and other distribution platforms.  The division operates globally with colleagues spread across 20 countries. Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

• Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs (JD-level): NBCUniversal Music Business & Legal Affairs services an array of clients in the Film & Television portfolios. The overall landscape of Film includes distinct business functions that each touch a key segment area in the overall lifecycle of a film, from ideation to premiere. On the TV side, there is a vast portfolio of sports, news networks, streaming, entertainment networks, and significant television production operations, including scripted, alternative and late night, and a leading television stations group. This intern’s responsibilities may include the following: researching music rights, analysing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance.    
• Film Rights & Clearances (JD-level): The Film Rights & Clearances intern will work with the Legal, Bonus Legal, and Music Legal teams to research/analyze and provide guidance on rights, contractual requirements, studio policy, guild issues, and product licensing to a variety of teams within Global Distribution and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. 
• USG Business Affairs (undergrad-level):  This intern will support the administrative arm of USG’s Business Affairs and Legal Affairs Departments. We support the two departments by keeping track of all deal points, tracking options & deadlines, talent fees, insurance and more. We work with IT to develop and maintain supporting applications to facilitate the deal-making and legal drafting functions, as well as robust reporting. We also interface with several other departments, such as Finance and Creative, as projects develop from an idea to a television series. The USG BA intern will assist with responsibilities including reviewing deal memos, agreements, and other correspondence; summarizing relevant deal points and updating Salesforce with fee information; and reviewing documents that have come into the department.
• USG Legal Affairs (JD-level):  Interns will assist show lawyers with vetting television show scripts for legal risks, making clearance determinations for production-related materials, and other issue-spotting and analysis. Interns will also conduct legal research on issues that may arise during the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows, as well as assist the team by leveraging existing legal technology tools, like Microsoft Power Automate, to support the group’s efforts to streamline process, generate forms, and create efficiencies.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027). December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program. 
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.  

Desired Characteristics:

• Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 
• For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs:   Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Ability to understand music-related concepts and contractual language is a plus; Strong interest in music and/or transactional work.  
• For Film Rights & Clearances:   Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing. 
• For USG Business Affairs:   Must be studying in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Pre-Law, English.) 
• For USG Legal Affairs:   Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Current class standing of 2L or above preferred; Coursework or experience in intellectual property, right of publicity, defamation, privacy, labor/employment, entertainment, and/or transactional law and AI preferred; Familiarity with Microsoft Power Automate, JSON programming, or other workflow automation tools, including how they may be deployed in connection with developing legal contract forms. 

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $19.00.

The hourly rate for law student interns is $25.00.
