Job Title: Industrial Painter
Job Description

This role focuses on operating a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine to apply primer, undercoating, and top coat finish paint on large structural steel components in a modern manufacturing environment. You will read and interpret blueprints, follow computer-based work instructions, and ensure all parts meet customer specifications and quality standards through precise paint mixing, application, and inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a high-pressure pot liquid painting machine to apply primer, undercoating, and top coat finish paint on structural steel components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine painting requirements, specifications, and quality standards for each job.
  • Mix paints accurately to match customer specifications, including color, viscosity, and finish.
  • Perform quality inspections on painted parts to ensure proper coverage, adhesion, and appearance before release.
  • Use a computer to access work procedures, blueprints, due dates, and special instructions for each work order.
  • Follow established finishing processes to produce consistent, high-quality painted products.
  • Handle and position large frames and shells safely, using overhead lifting devices as required.
  • Measure materials and components accurately using a tape measure to verify dimensions and paint coverage requirements.
  • Apply paint in a safe and efficient manner, maintaining clean and organized painting stations and equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and maintain high quality standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to painting operations, overhead cranes, and plant equipment.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of liquid painting experience on structural steel or in a manufacturing facility.
  • Proficiency in industrial liquid painting and finishing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for painting and quality requirements.
  • Experience performing quality inspections on painted parts.
  • Ability to navigate and use a computer to view work procedures, blueprints, due dates, and special instructions.
  • Proficiency in using a tape measure to take accurate measurements.
  • Comfort with learning and using an overhead lifting device safely.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions to support measuring, mixing, and quality checks.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finished products.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Sandblasting experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with large structural steel components is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot paint application issues.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and adapt to updated procedures in a modern facility.

Work Environment

The role is based on a large, open factory and plant floor designed for handling sizable structural steel products. Large overhead cranes are located throughout the building to assist with moving and positioning heavy components. Each painting station is spacious to accommodate the size of the products and is supported by a brand-new painting booth and new equipment. The facility has good ventilation to support painting operations and maintain a comfortable work setting. You will work in typical industrial attire appropriate for a manufacturing and painting environment, with required safety gear provided according to plant standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Mankato, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
